Bhai Rashpal Singh Chandra was a prominent Sikh leader and militant in Punjab who sacrificed his life under brutal circumstances. On June 12, 1992, he was tortured to death by police in Ludhiana, dying in custody after an ambush the previous day. His martyrdom sparked massive public mourning, as villagers reportedly defied authorities to conduct his own cremation. Despite suspicion, many recall him as firm yet fair—protecting ordinary people in areas he controlled. His death became a rallying point for demands for justice, legal inquiry, and memorialization.
